Happy New Year! You and our greater Nebraska Business community are a big part of our success. We had much to celebrate the past 12 months and throughout our five years in Hawks Hall. Our five-year timeline features our distinctive programs, standout student support services, high rankings and other achievements earned through the tireless work of many while establishing Nebraska Business as a premier business college. I look forward to continuing to build on those accomplishments in 2023.
As we look to the future, we stay focused on our mission of driving discovery, creating opportunity and empowering individuals to lead the future of business. Collaboration will be key to reaching our mission-focused goals and elevating our college to the next level.
Kicking off the new year, we ask for your assistance with three efforts:
- DRIVING DISCOVERY: NOMINATE STUDENTS FOR HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER PROGRAMS
The College of Business offers three summer programs to help high school students explore various careers in business — DREAMBIG Academy, Discover Accounting and starting this summer, Discover Actuarial Science. Students selected for these programs come to experience campus life at no cost while learning about business in Hawks Hall and connecting with our Nebraska Business community. Nominate high school students for our Summer High School programs.
- CREATING OPPORTUNITY: Glow Big Red Held February 15-16
Last year, the power of our Nebraska Business community was evident when our alumni and friends helped us provide more than $1 million dollars in scholarships. To help raise funds for greatest needs, scholarships and other college areas, Nebraska's 24-hour giving event Glow Big Red starts February 15 at noon and ends February 16 at noon with a university goal of 5,000 gifts. You can donate early starting the week of January 17, and your gift, no matter the size, will go further due to matching gifts provided by generous donors. Give to Nebraska Business GLOW BIG RED.
- EMPOWERING INDIVIDUALS TO LEAD THE FUTURE OF BUSINESS: REFER A FUTURE HUSKER
The College of Business offers 11 undergraduate degree programs with our new business and law major in addition to accounting, actuarial science, agribusiness, business administration, business and law, economics, entrepreneurship/management, finance, international business, marketing and supply chain management as well as multiple minors. To help our business students personalize their learning journey through our distinctive programs, we also started peer-to-peer mentoring programs, which assist students with building a robust network of mentors and peers, and also provide access to internships and career opportunities. These peer-to-peer programs include: Teaching and Learning Center tutors, Business Career Center peer coaches, Clifton Strengths Institute coaches, Inclusive Business Leaders Program mentors, and NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) advisors. With the addition of these mentoring programs, students can work toward their career goals in a collaborative environment. Do you know a someone who could benefit from the Nebraska Business experience? Refer FUTURE HUSKERS so they can visit Hawks Hall and get answers to their questions about college!
I greatly appreciate your engagement and help with providing a Nebraska Business experience to others. I hope you will share these opportunities with your network as well.
Together, we are Nebraska Business.
