We challenge our students in and out of the classroom, pushing them to help find solutions to tomorrow’s business problems. They are supported by dedicated faculty and staff who empower them to lead the future of business. Yet, one key ingredient in the development of our future business leaders hinges upon an external force – the active engagement of our entire Nebraska Business community. Our alumni and business partners bring tremendous value to the College of Business through their contributions of time, talent and financial support. I am both amazed by and grateful for their ongoing dedication to helping us build a premier business college.
Keith Kretschmer, ’56, recently returned to campus as our college’s alumni master during the Nebraska Alumni Association Masters Week. He shared tales of his adventurous life – from starting his own businesses to coordinating events for U.S. presidents – with students, faculty and staff as he met with them in various sessions and classes throughout the week. Talking about his experiences and the challenges he faced in the business world, he sparked students to emulate his quest to always challenge himself and make it matter. By giving their time, alumni help students bring their future into focus.
At this time of year, we encounter numerous sources of inspiration and business professionals leading by example. At the
35th Annual Awards Luncheon on April 12, we will honor three alumni and one business for their impact on our Nebraska Business community. Before and after this luncheon, multiple advisory boards meet and bring their special talents to us to provide feedback and direction in serving our current and future students.
Employer partners play a crucial role in impacting our students long before they hire them. Our students benefit from interacting with our daily employers in residence. They volunteer to network with students in Career Development and Planning (BSAD 222), provide beneficial internship opportunities and lend their expertise in Business+ workshops. These workshops are specialized trainings that develop in-demand skills that employers need. In a way,
Employer Partners Day hosted by the Business Career Center on Thursday, May 9 shows how we value these relationships by offering a day of professional development and networking for those who hire Nebraska Business talent.
To continue to build a premier business college, we must call upon you to help us drive discovery, create opportunity and empower the individuals in our community. I hope you will consider how you can positively impact the college by offering your time, resources or spreading the word about our events and programs to your peers, such as the
upcoming Power Lunches exploring technology and business topics.
As our first graduates in the Class of 2019 prepare to receive their diplomas at commencement in May, they leave prepared to continue to challenge themselves, ask bold questions and lead the future of business. Through your strong example, we hope they will stay connected and also see the college as an academic hub that benefits their life-long learning and creates enduring, meaningful relationships.
