Dr. Tammy Beck, associate dean of graduate programs and external engagement and associate professor of management in the College of Business Administration, will deliver the commencement address at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln graduate and professional degrees ceremonies to be held at the Pinnacle Bank Arena on Friday, December 18, at 3 p.m.

The title of Beck’s commencement address is "Lessons from Servant Leadership."

“I want our graduates to think about leadership and the kind of leader they want to be,” Beck said. “Servant leadership focuses on our hearts, heads, hands and habits. In doing that I hope our graduates will reflect on a leadership path that allows them to have the greatest positive impact in the next chapter of their life.”

One of Beck’s primary focuses at CBA is growing the Executive Education program and other master’s programs, including the MBA, master of arts in business administration (MABA) and master of arts in athletic administration (MAIAA).

Beck joined the CBA faculty in July 2014. She received her accounting degree from the University of Texas, her master of business administration from the University of Houston and her doctoral degree in organization and management studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She worked for 17 years in public accounting and industry before entering academia, where she devotes her research to organizational resilience, the factors supporting effective interorganizational collaboration and strategic leadership.

The undergraduate ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, and the address will be given by CBA alumnus Dr. M. Ishaq Nadiri ‘58, Jay Gould Professor of Economics at New York University.

Nadiri served as chairman of the economics department at NYU from 1972-78. He also founded and served as the first director of the C.V. Starr Center for Applied Economics. In recent years, his research efforts have extended to economic responses to terrorism, post-conflict reconstruction and economies of failed states. Currently among other topics, he is working on an integrated econometric model of economic growth and political developments.

More than 1,300 degrees will be awarded at the ceremonies and both will be streamed live at http://www.unl.edu.

The ceremonies are free and open to the public and no tickets are required.
