Former CBA marketing Ph.D. student Ahmet Ekici endorsed Gentry’s contributions, followed by an officer in the Macromarketing Society who talked about Gentry's sensitivity and encouragement of doctoral students.

One humorous anecdote related the time Gentry and his wife Ruth, took Suraj Commuri, a vegetarian Hindu and Ekici, a Muslim, to a colorful restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, which featured sausages floating in grease.

Gentry was presented with a miniature version of the Buddy Bear, (see picture) a public art campaign introduced citywide in Berlin in 2001.
