Luthans Awarded Citations of Excellence Award for Research

For the second time in the past three years, Dr. Fred Luthans, University and George Holmes Distinguished Professor of Management, has won the prestigious Citations of Excellence Award from the Emerald Management Review. The article he was awarded for this time is “Psychological Capital: A Positive Resource for Combating Employee Stress and Turnover,” published in Human Resource Management.

The article, written with his former doctoral students Dr. James Avey of Central Washington University and Dr. Susan Jensen of University of Nebraska at Kearney, was chosen as one of the top 50 articles with proven impact since its publication date from the top 300 business journals, which includes Journal of Finance, Journal of Marketing, Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal and MIS Quarterly.

About a decade ago, Luthans, credited as the first to take positive psychology to the workplace, formulated and published in the top journals what he termed positive organizational behavior (POB) and psychological capital (PsyCap) consisting of the psychological resources of hope, efficacy (confidence), resilience and optimism (the HERO within). This evidence-based positive approach to leadership, human resource performance and development and employee well-being is now recognized by both academics and practitioners throughout the world.

Luthans recently keynoted PsyCap programs not only in the U.S., but also China, England, Norway, Finland, South Africa and is soon planning on taking it to Italy.
