Laura Schulte Advises Students as CBA Master

Laura Schulte ’81, retired Executive Vice President of Wells Fargo, was named the 2015 College of Business Administration Master. She was on campus November 4-6 as one of seven outstanding University of Nebraska–Lincoln alumni honored during Alumni Masters Week, sponsored by the Nebraska Alumni Association, Scarlet Guard and the UNL Chancellor’s Office.

While guest speaking in Roberto Stein’s International Financial Management (FINA 450) class, the alumni master detailed her years of success at Wells Fargo and gave students advice on how to achieve their career goals.

“You have to sell the part of you that can’t be seen on a résumé,” she said. “You’re prepared for the intellectual and technical aspects of being a businessperson, but you have to remember the personal side.”

Schulte also advised students not to plan their futures for even the best-laid plans are apt to fail.

“It’s not always working your way up the ladder. Sometimes you have to hop off one ladder and start climbing up another,” she said.

During her time on campus, Schulte met with a variety of CBA classes, spoke to the Honors Academy and ended the week at the Medallion Dinner on Friday, November 6 in the Van Brunt Visitors Center.
