Building valuable connections was the theme of the recent Banking Career Fair for students from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Nebraska bankers. The event focused on increasing awareness and developing employment relationships.
 
The career fair was a partnership with the Nebraska Bankers Association (NBA), UNL Career Services, and Career Services at CBA. Held March 10, NBA member banks recruited for a variety of positons, including full-time and internships, in all areas of their businesses. Although the focus was on the College of Business Administration and finance opportunities, the event featured a full range of banking related jobs, including legal and marketing.
 
“The NBA has been an active supporter of UNL over the years by providing our students with scholarships and internship opportunities. This Banking Career Fair is just one more example of how the NBA has been proactive in making connections with CBA students and UNL students in general,” said Kathy Farrell, chair of the finance department and State Farm Professor of Finance. “CBA students were given another opportunity to connect with business professionals and potential employers in a smaller and more focused setting.”
 
About 100 students shared their qualifications and employment potential with 16 NBA member banks.
 
“Overall, we were very pleased with the event,” said Jeannine Berge, associate director employer experience and outreach, Career Services at CBA. “Students liked the smaller event and the focus on banking. There was a broad level of opportunities.”
 
Discussions are already underway for the next Banking Career Day. 
 
“We received positive feedback from both students and the bank representatives,” Berge said. “This provides a good opportunity to build connections and lasting relationships for students, the Nebraska Bankers Association and CBA.” Published: April 15, 2015
