Actuarial Science’s Centers of Actuarial Excellence Designation Renewed

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Actuarial Science program in the College of Business Administration was again designated as one of 16 Centers of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) in the U.S. by the Society of Actuaries through December 31, 2020. In order to earn this distinction, the actuarial science program excels in eight specific requirements related to degree, curriculum, graduate count, faculty composition, graduate quality, appropriate integration, connection to industry and research/scholarship. 

 Programs designated as a CAE by the SOA must meet eight specific requirements related to degree, curriculum, graduate count, faculty composition, graduate quality, appropriate integration, connection to industry and research/scholarship. The UNL actuarial science first received this designation in 2009.

“Our actuarial science program is consistently ranked among the very best in the nation and this designation as one of 16 Centers of Actuarial Excellence in the U.S. by the Society of Actuaries is a testament to the quality of our program in CBA,” said Dean Donde Plowman. “Our faculty do an excellent job of preparing our students for careers in this demanding field and our alumni have proven to be some of the best actuaries in the world. Congratulations to our actuarial science faculty, staff, students and alumni for this esteemed honor.”

 The actuarial science program in CBA was established in 1957 and is one of 26 programs in the world to have the CAE designation. Actuarial science provides an intensive pre-professional program with strong and long-standing connections to, and financial and advisory support from, an extensive network of alumni and business partners. The program educates, develops and produces highly qualified actuarial graduates for the global market.

 The Society of Actuaries (SOA) is an educational, research and professional organization dedicated to serving the public, its members and its candidates. The SOA’s mission is to advance actuarial knowledge and to enhance the ability of actuaries to provide expert advice and relevant solutions for financial, business and societal problems. The SOA’s vision is for actuaries to be the leading professionals in the measurement and management of risk.
