Sheri Irwin-Gish, Kimberly Smith, Laura Niles and Stephanie Smith attended the CASE conference in Denver, Colorado, in January.
College of Business students and faculty recognized for recent achievements include: 
  • The Council of Advancement and Support of Education(CASE) District VI honored the Communications, Marketing and External Relations team at the College of Business(CMER) with two institutional awards. They received a gold award for their creative work with the DREAMBIG Academy in the diversity programs category. This is the second gold received by CMER in back-to-back years in this category. CMER also earned a silver award in the best use of social media category for the social media strategy and engagement around the opening of Howard L. Hawks Hall.
  • Four business majors represented Nebraska at the annual U.S. Naval Academy Leadership Conference, January 21-24, in Annapolis, Maryland. Students selected to attend include: Adam Bastian, senior accounting major from Jordan, Minnesota; Keaton Fricker, sophomore Clifton Builders management major from Midland, Texas; Bailey Celeste O'Connor, senior economics major from Lincoln, Nebraska; and Jeffrey Owusu-Ansah, junior international business and marketing major from Lincoln.
  • Paula Caldwell, career coach in the Business Career Center, received a Dean’s Coin from Dean Kathy Farrell and Associate Dean Rik Barrera. She was nominated for the honor by student, Wyatt Packard, a peer career coach who works with fellow business students. Wyatt said Caldwell was one of the first people to teach him how to leverage his introspective and reserved nature to succeed instead of struggle. “From her professionalism, kindness, unwavering focus on student success, and ability to connect, Paula exemplifies a person who goes well beyond what is required. The College of Business and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln are better because of her work.”
  • Jennifer Davidson, assistant professor of practice in economics and president of the Nebraska Council on Economic Education, offered tips to conquer debt and overspending from the holidays to Lincoln news station 1011 News. Watch the interview at: https://www.1011now.com/video?vid=503525542.
  • Sheri Irwin-Gish, executive director for Communications, Marketing and External Relations, presented "The Power of Communications" at the CASE District VI Conference in Denver. She shared creative ways to make communications – which includes videos, social media, emails, print and promotional items and more – more powerful by including key messages to in a creative way to get the target markets to take action.
  • Dr. Fred Luthans, University and George Holmes Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Management, was cited in a Jan. 2 Jamaica Observer article on self-leadership. According to Luthans, psychological capital consists of four components: hope, efficacy, resilience and optimism.   • The Nebraska Business Student Advisory Board selected Maggie Schlecht, a junior international business major from Chicago, as the Student of the Month. She is involved in the Nebraska Business Honors Academy, Husker International Business Club, College of Business Ambassadors, Allan Noddle International Business Distinguished Scholars and more. 
  • Kimberly Smith, assistant director for Communications, Marketing and External Relations, presented "Seen on Screen: Marketing with Digital Signage" at the CASE District VI Conference. She shared how the College of Business utilizes digital signage to strengthen internal marketing, build community and communicate the university's brand.
  • Dr. Eric Thompson, Karl H. Nelson Professor of Economics and director of the Bureau of Business Research, was interviewed for a Jan. 18 Associated Press story on Nebraska’s unemployment rate hitting an 18-year low. The low rates Nebraska has enjoyed over the years reflect "the quality of our workforce, and we just don't have a lot of people who spend a lot of time unemployed," Thompson said. The article was picked up by the Beatrice Daily Sun, Columbus Telegram, Fremont Tribune, Grand Island Independent, Hastings Tribune and North Platte Telegraph.   • The Executive Vice Chancellor’s office selected College of Business faculty members Dr. Geoffrey Friesen, associate professor in finance, and Dr. Kalu Osiri, director of the international business program and associate professor of practice in management,along with 26 other Nebraska faculty to participate in the new Faculty Leadership in Academia: From Inspiration to Reality program (FLAIR). The program provides professional development for University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty who are considering a leadership role or are in their first leadership position and considering continuing on a leadership path.
