Myers Earns Scholarship from Oxford Experience
As a self-proclaimed Anglophile, Justin Myers chose to participate in the Nebraska at Oxford Program, the most popular study abroad program at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. His desire to learn more about economics during Brexit paid off when he earned a scholarship for his academic achievements in the program coordinated by the College of Business.

Audrey Erker, a business administration major from Omaha, Nebraska, who will be a junior this fall, studies abroad in the Nebraska at Oxford program July 21-August 17. She chose the business abroad program because she loves its history, a 31-year collaboration between Nebraska and Jesus College at the University of Oxford. Audrey looks forward to meeting other people who are challenging themselves to explore a new culture together. She chose this global immersion program because China plays a large role in Nebraska’s economy, especially in agriculture. Maggie Schlecht, a junior international business major from Elmhurst, Illinois, will join some of her fellow members of the Allan Noddle International Business Distinguished Scholars Program on a ten-day trip abroad to Panama this December. She and a multi-disciplinary team of students are designing a luxury sailboat marina in Panama before the trip. She said, “I am excited to create a business plan for a country I’ve never visited, as well as get to know the other students, faculty and locals.” After her time in Panama, Maggie will study abroad for a semester in Aix-en-Provence, France.

Chase Caverzagie, a senior actuarial science major from Papillion, Nebraska, will travel abroad to Benin in West Africa this December. Prior to the trip, students in their International Studies – Business & Economics (BSAD 491) class are working on two projects to explore the complexities of international trade and business in the frontier market. In Benin, the students plan to interview Beninese and other African immigrants to better understand their culture and experiences. The students will then present their plans to expand tourism and create employment for young people in Benin. Caverzagie selected the global immersion program to experience the African culture firsthand and learn from those in the College of Business who are familiar with the region. He shared how he looks forward to “seeing new things and experiencing a culture much different than my own.”

Reagan Scott, a junior management major from Lincoln, Nebraska, will study abroad with the Nebraska at Oxford program from July 15 to August 11. The most popular study abroad program offered by the university, Nebraska at Oxford celebrates its 30th anniversary this summer. In her four-weeks in England, she will take two courses concerning the British political and international economic policy. Scott chose to study abroad at Oxford because she has always had an affinity for British culture and wanted to have the experience of studying at the world’s oldest English-speaking university. She said, “I am really looking forward to immersing myself into everyday life at Oxford. It’s crazy to think I will actually be living in another country for four weeks and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for me there!” She also plans on exploring Galway, Ireland, and London after her program concludes.

Meghan Matt, a sophomore international business major from Mound, Minnesota, will study abroad in Panama from December 27 to January 7. Matt chose to apply for the Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Panama program because she wanted to experience Latin American business culture. Leading up to their time in Panama, students develop a marketing plan for a Panamanian teakwood farmer and will work to implement it during their trip. She said, “I am most looking forward to meeting the local farmer who we have been writing a marketing plan for in class.” One of the college’s Distinguished International Business Scholars, she also plans to get an internship in China and spend a semester in Denmark while pursuing her degree at Nebraska.
