2024 School of Accountancy student achievements.

Elijah Beninato, accounting and finance major from San Antonio, Texas; Nikolas Mainieri Mancio, accounting and finance major from Porto Alegre, Brazil; and Bruno Salles, accounting major from Porto Alegre, Brazil; competed at the second annual Tenaska Business Challenge.

Benjamin Brandt, accounting major from Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and MPA student, won three medals in the 2023 World Abilitysport Games in Thailand.

Aaron Ebrahim, senior accounting major from Lincoln, Nebraska, was one of four Nebraska Business students who won the national supply chain competition at the Specialty Tools and Fasteners Distributors Association (STAFDA) conference in San Antonio, Texas. The Nebraska team claimed the championship for the second year in a row.

Ale Guiza Gonzalez, a sophomore accounting major from Crete, Nebraska, was recognized with the Inclusive Business Leaders Community Builder Award for going above and beyond in making others feel welcomed, valued and respected.

Gretchen Holland, sophomore accounting and finance major from Bloomington, Minnesota, traveled to Boston to compete in the national Venture Capital Investment Competition in January. The Nebraska team won the Entrepreneur’s Choice award.

Jonah Harrison, sophomore accounting and finance major from Waterloo, was one of the 40 UNL students inducted into the Undergraduate Certificate of Sales Excellence Program.

Morgan Reinecke, MPA student from Elkhorn, Nebraska, received a Dean’s Coin for going above and beyond on the launch of the new Future of Nebraska Scholarship program.

Ellie Schaardt, sophomore accounting major from Steinauer, Nebraska was named a UNL New Student Enrollment orientation leaders for summer 2024.

Kyran Thomas, senior accounting major from Lincoln and Andrew Wellman, senior accounting major from Waco, Nebraska were members of the 48-Hour Challenge first-place team. Their business was called Street Eats, a designated food truck park in Lincoln.

Three accounting majors in the university’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi won second place in the world in Las Vegas for the Beta Alpha Psi International Best Practices Competition in the Reimagining Career Aspirations category. The students — Blake Kokes, senior accounting and finance major from Grand Island, Nebraska; Alvan Tran, junior accounting major from Lincoln, Nebraska; and Morgan Wallinger, ’23, Master of Professional Accountancy student from Stuart, Nebraska — placed first among all 253 active U.S. chapters, making them the national champions. Previously this year, the team won first place at the organization’s mid-year meeting in Seattle. For their project, they planned and implemented a panel discussion on various certifications available to accounting and finance graduates. Their advisor is Debra Cosgrove, ’88 & ’89 MPA, professor of practice in accountancy.
