The College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln hosted a high tea celebration on November 2. The event brought together students to talk about the Nebraska at Oxford Program. Students who studied abroad in Oxford, England, this summer shared their experience with students interested in applying to the program while enjoying the English tradition of tea and scones.
 
The Nebraska at Oxford Program is the largest study abroad program at Nebraska. The program allows students to study at the oldest university in the English speaking world and to immerse themselves in the vibrant and historic culture of Oxford.
 
“There isn’t a program like Nebraska at Oxford anywhere else in the country. For 28 years, students in the program have had a great experience learning from Oxford faculty,” said Dr. Donde Plowman, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business Administration.
 
During the four-week program, students can take two lecture-tutorial courses on British political and international economic policy, Political Economy of Britain Since 1945 and International Economics, for six hours of UNL academic credit. Non-business students can enroll in Shakespeare's Dramatic Arts, rather than International Economics. Faculty from Oxford University teach the courses, and students believe they make the program a valuable experience.
 
"The professors are very engaging and are willing to help you. It was such a cool time to study abroad in England and will be for those thinking of going this summer because of the aftermath of Brexit. Our professors gave us a global perspective by bringing different views on this and other issues," said Phoebe Lockhart, junior economics major from Ogallala, Nebraska.
 
Lockhart was one of three students who were recognized by Plowman for their outstanding achievements while in Oxford. She was awarded The Nebraska at Oxford Program Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence. The Nebraska at Oxford Program Dean’s Award for Academic Achievement was awarded to Katlyn LaCroix, junior actuarial science major from South Elgin, Illinois, and Camden Bilyeu, senior economics and chemistry major from Omaha, Nebraska.
 
"I had never been out of the country before studying abroad, and this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience another culture and travel. It was a great learning experience in gaining independence and becoming more globally aware," said LaCroix. "You also make a lot of friendships with people not only at Oxford but also with those who traveled with you from UNL and we brought that sense of community back to campus."
