After 30 years of growth, the international business major at University of Nebraska–Lincoln achieved a new milestone after the International Business Summit held earlier this year. The Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education (CUIBE) granted the College of Business full membership into the alliance of 25 leading U.S. universities that work to advance quality international business programs.
To attain the membership, Nebraska Business demonstrated a commitment to collaborate with peer institutions, discover and share best practices and ideas for programs, curriculum, internships, research and experiences, according to Dr. Kalu Osiri, director of the international business program at Nebraska and associate professor of practice in management. The membership opens doors for Nebraska Business students to participate in international business case competitions and career conferences as well as the international internships, undergraduate research and study abroad opportunities they already enjoy. International business majors at Nebraska complete international internships and study abroad at least once.
“I am most proud of the activities that set us apart among our peers: the Allan Noddle International Business Distinguished Scholars program, the Medallion program and international consulting in frontier markets during global immersion experiences. These programs allow us to engage with students who are making a difference through their education at Nebraska. I am also extremely proud of the brilliance and collaborative spirit of members of our International Business Faculty Fellows who work passionately in concert with our staff to raise the stature of our program,” Osiri said.
The International Business Fellows are Nebraska Business faculty members who teach international courses, conduct international-related research and lead global immersion programs to locations throughout the world. But the team isn’t resting on its successes. They aspire to increase the number of locations and options of global immersion programs throughout the world, as well as continue to increase the number of Nebraska Business students studying abroad. These experiences help students expand their cultural perspectives and develop skills to help them grow personally and professionally and better compete in the job market.
The international business team at Nebraska aspires to strengthen cross-campus partnerships to build toward the new goals they are setting for themselves, Osiri noted. These aspirations include further expanding international business programs and international consulting opportunities in frontier markets such as Africa.
“I want to deepen our multidisciplinary experiences across campus, such as projects with engineering, agricultural and journalism students in study abroad programs and research. Our consulting projects are multidisciplinary, which allows us to give business students a taste of other disciplines while preparing them for business in an ever-changing global landscape,” Osiri said.
