Fifty-Six Students Travel to Oxford for Summer
Students studying abroad in Oxford have the opportunity to immerse themselves in British culture.
With bags packed, 56 University of Nebraska–Lincoln students travel to England to participate in the Nebraska at Oxford program July 21-August 17. Sponsored by the College of Business, the global immersion program is a 31-year collaboration between Nebraska and Jesus College at the University of Oxford.

“The Nebraska at Oxford Program is the premier study abroad program offered at the university because of our relationship with the faculty and staff at Oxford,” said Dr. Kathy Farrell, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business. “Our students gain a competitive edge in the job market by having the opportunity to study at this prestigious university. We also know from the program’s alumni that it provides an experience they will never forget.”

Open to all academic majors, business students take two lecture courses dealing with British political and international economic policy or Shakespearean literature. Students also immerse themselves in English culture throughout the program, visiting historical sites like Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, having high tea at the Old Parsonage Hotel, and partaking in the horseraces at Sandown Racecourse.

Audrey Erker, a junior business administration major from Omaha, Nebraska, chose the program because of her love for history. A program rich in history, the University of Oxford stands as the oldest university in the English-speaking world. She looks forward to challenging herself and exploring a new culture.

“I knew I wanted to study abroad and thought that Oxford's program was perfect, yet I couldn't pull the trigger, subconsciously something was holding me back,” she said as she blogs her experiences in Oxford for the college. “I forgot about everything else and thought about flying. I thought about all the adventures I would have in England. I asked myself the only question that actually mattered: ‘Do I want to go to Oxford?’ Yes.”
