In one article, the magazine discussed the institute’s “What’s on the Horizon for International Trade?” conference held in October, where attendees heard from experts on the challenges facing international trade. The article also mentions Dr. Uchechukwu Jarrett, assistant professor of practice in economics, who opened the conference with a primer on important legal and economic trade concepts, and Justin Myers, senior economics major from Omaha, Nebraska, who served on the student panel held during the conference. The second article introduced the Yeutter Institute’s podcast, Trade Matters, which launched in the fall of 2019. Learn more about the October trade conference: https://go.unl.edu/0zmr. • According to the most recent report from the Bureau of Business Research, Nebraska expects to see moderate economic growth through June. The state’s leading economic indicator, a composite of economic factors that predict economic growth six months into the future, rose 1.1 percent during December. “The leading indicator primarily rose due to strong business expectations,” said Dr. Eric Thompson, director of the BBR. Respondents to the December Survey of Nebraska Business reported plans to increase sales and employment over the next six months.
  • Dr. J. Kalu Osiri, director and associate professor of practice in international business, co-authored a study that suggests using Facebook at work can have a negative effect on project success, whereas LinkedIn has a positive effect. • The National Association of Forensic Economics (NAFE) announced Dr. David Rosenbaum, associate director of the Bureau of Business Research and professor of economics, as its president-elect. He will serve in that capacity for the next year and as president for the following two years. • Szymon Day, an MBA student from Omaha, Nebraska, received a Dean’s Coin for going above and beyond to help others in the College of Business. Day proved to be an invaluable asset to the center in times of need and went above and beyond what was expected of him. “He often identified tasks that no one had been assigned to do and completed them without being asked to ensure nothing slipped between the cracks,” said Celeste Spier, associate director for career and professional development in the Business Career Center.
