Omicron Delta Epsilon Economic Honor Society is Revitalized at CBA

Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE) is known as one of the most prestigious student organizations for economics in the country. During recent times, the group had been inactive at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, but with the help of Dr. Eric Thompson, director of the Bureau of Business Research, the organization is beginning anew at the College of Business Administration.

“Our department saw a real value in revitalizing it here on campus,” Thompson said. “ODE has a great reputation throughout the world as an international honor society that emphasizes scholastic achievement in economics. It’s one of the world’s largest academic honor societies.”

Will Wasserburger, a senior economics and finance major from Fort Worth, Texas, was one of the first students to get involved.

Will Wasserburger recruits new students for ODE

“I was thrilled when I found out they were getting ODE going,” said Will Wasserburger, a senior economics and finance major from Fort Worth, Texas. “I attended the meetings right away and while we were going through the process of re-registering our group we had our first elections. I was elected president of our chapter.”

Wasserburger is excited about the variety of meetings offered by the group.

“We bring in professors to share about their expertise, have employers speak about job opportunities and discuss hot topic economic issues at our meetings. We also had joint juris doctorate/MBA students talk about what to expect if we want to go that route.”

Another unique feature of the meetings is occasionally offering tutoring assistance for fellow students struggling with their economics class.

“We’re offering tutoring labs where we encourage students looking for help with economics coursework to come and talk with us. They can ask us any questions they might have. Our job is to encourage and make them feel comfortable reaching out for help.”

Students with an interest in economics are encouraged to attend a meeting of ODE. The meetings occur each Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in CBA 222. Thompson added that the club is open to anyone interested in economics, and students do not have to be an economics major to participate.
