Summer Program Leads Edic to Career

Summer Program Leads Edic to Career
Harley Edic first explored careers in accounting and business as a high school program student at Discover Accounting.

Harley Edic, ’22, first explored careers in accounting during the Discover Accounting high school summer program at Nebraska. The free program led her to enroll in Nebraska’s top-ranked accounting program where she excelled, and she went on to earn her Master of Professional Accountancy this May.

“I heard about Discover Accounting from my high school accounting teacher. I wanted to learn more about the profession and opportunities at Nebraska while exploring campus,” said the Lincoln East graduate.

In the summer program, she and her peers compared day-to-day realities of auditors and public accountants, and met accounting professionals, faculty and students.

“Talking to Nebraska college students in an informal environment was very insightful. Meeting professors like Jill Trucke, associate professor of practice in accountancy, and professionals at various firms was extremely valuable. The summer program sets students up to be successful in college even before they start,” said Edic.

Due to what she learned during Discover Accounting, Edic planned her courses at Nebraska strategically, so she could complete three internships and study abroad in Spain. She also served as a research assistant, tutor, competed in the Deloitte Audit Innovation Campus Challenge, and was involved with Beta Alpha Psi and Delta Sigma Pi, graduating as a Chancellor’s Scholar with a 4.0 GPA.

“One of my internships led to a full-time job with EY in Minneapolis as a financial services assurance associate,” she said. “My accounting professors did a great job preparing me to take the CPA exam and succeed.”
