Event Description

SciComm is a conference dedicated to understanding and promoting effective communication of science to diverse audiences - including students of all levels as well as the general public - across all venues. The virtual conference will include keynote speakers, featured speakers, panels, a film festival, Science Slam and 15-minute talks from conference attendees. In-person networking events will be planned in Lincoln, Nebraska, for local participants (lodging is not provided). Check our website https://www.scicommcon.org/ for updates to the schedule.

NOTE: In order to save and edit your registration, you will need to select the “Create an account” option and create a username and password. If you think you may need more than one session to complete your registration, you must create an account in order to save your progress. Do not complete the registration fee payment step until you have entered all of your registration information. Once the registration fee has been paid, your registration is considered final and cannot be edited.

DEADLINES FOR YOUR CALENDAR:

  • Friday, July 15: Oral Presentation and Science Slam submissions
  • Friday, August 5: Film submissions
  • Wednesday, August 10: Event registration closes

 

Presentation Information

Friday, July 15 is the deadline for signing up for oral presentations. Please submit your registration before the end of day on Friday, July 15 to have your oral presentation considered. You will be required to submit the title of your talk and an abstract (4,000 character max.).

Science Slam Information

Science Slam submissions are due Friday, July 15. The Science Slam is a science communication competition where researchers of ALL LEVELS from ALL SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINES are challenged to communicate their work in short, dynamic and engaging presentations, with a winner to be decided by the audience. The SciComm Science Slam will be live-streamed on YouTube on Thursday, August 18, at 7 p.m. (central). Applicants who are selected as finalists will present their 5-minute talks virtually, and the live audience will vote to decide the winner.

Film Festival Information

Film submissions are due by Friday, August 5. Filmmakers - novice and experienced - are encouraged to submit a short film (<10 minutes) on a scientific or environmental topic to the SciComm 2022 Film Festival. This competition is open to scientists and non-scientists from anywhere in the world. There will be a People’s Choice winner ($500 prize) and a Judge’s Choice winner ($500 prize) with each entry scored for visuals and oral presentation.
