Interview: KT CEO Yong-Kyung Lee on Creating Value for Customers
Korea Telecom (KT) was founded in 1981 to provide efficient telecommunication services and develop new telecommunication technologies. Its high-speed Internet service has attracted more than 5 million subscribers and made the company a comprehensive wired-wireless communications carrier. In 2001, Korea Telecom reinvented itself as a global company with a new name, KT. KT has 45,000 employees, total revenue of $9 billion in 2001, and was privatized in 2002. For its company vision, it labeled itself as "The Value Networking Company" with the primary mission of creating value for customers. Since joining KT in May 1991 as the chief of the Research Center of KT, Yong-Kyung Lee (Ph.D. Berkeley) has worked as the Head of the R&D Team, Chief of the Software Research Center, Head of the Wireless Communication Development Team, Director of R&D Facilities, and President of KTF (Korea Telecom Freetel). He was named CEO of KT in August 2002.
