Another year is upon us, and we are excited to welcome your student back to campus. Our students spent their summer studying abroad, engaging in internships and gaining work experience. This may lead you to think summertime in Howard L. Hawks Hall is quiet, but there is definitely still a buzz as we gear up for the fall semester. There have been multiple high school programs hosted, exploring entrepreneurship, leadership, business and accounting. We have admitted our first students into our two new online master’s degree programs in finance and business analytics. We also hired some amazing new faculty to support our programs in the college.
I hope you will come to the Back to School Bash on Friday, August 17 and meet some of our CoB faculty and staff in person. After move-in is done for your student, it’s a great opportunity to get out of the heat, meet people in our college’s community, enjoy live music and get a “Taste of Nebraska” with Runza sandwiches, Valentino’s pizza, Dairy Store ice cream, Kool-Aid and more.
The Bash is a great time to learn more about the resources available to your student as a business major. Below are a few resources you can share with your student as they need it this semester.
The new Teaching and Learning Center, located in Hawks Hall (HLH) 014, offers study groups, course mentors and supplemental support for challenging courses as well as workshops on topics such as developing study skills, managing test anxiety and time management.
We have a wonderful team of academic advisors in Business Advising and Student Engagement, who are located in HLH 125. They assist with class scheduling, staying on track to graduate in four years, success strategies, campus resources and more.
It feels like the job and internship search begins sooner each year. They can get a jumpstart on these searches with preparation. The career coaches in the Business Career Center (HLH 141) can help them draft their resume, explore careers and more. Students can make appointments to see someone or drop by.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful rest of your summer.
