SRAM Prepares Future Faculty

Ana Lucía Cordova-Cazarm, a Ph.D. student in SRAM, has been chosen to participate in the Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  The summer seminar focuses on the roles and responsibilities PFF participants will hold as faculty members in higher education. The format for the seminar will be discussion-based; sessions provide an opportunity for Fellows to meet with senior administrators (e.g., academic dean, a chair of a P & T committee) and faculty at UNL, providing participants a foundation for their fall structured mentoring experiences.

The structured mentoring experience takes place over the fall semester, as students work with a faculty mentor from a partner institution, make two to four visits to a partner campus in the Lincoln-Omaha area and participate in various mentoring activities. After an initial consultation in the fall, fellows and their mentors construct an individual program of activities designed to develop teaching competence, knowledge of the academic profession and an understanding of the partner institution’s academic culture.

SRAM leadership believes it is an excellent way to prepare for a future in academia.
