Seniors Use CBA Experiences in the Job Market

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration graduated 118 seniors, masters and doctoral students on Saturday, August 15 at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. Two August graduates reminisce about how their CBA experiences prepared them to Start Something in the business world.

Kaylan Maloley
Kaylan Maloley, a marketing major from Omaha, Nebraska, accepted a marketing manager position with Lincoln Industries. She was able to land a full-time position with Lincoln Industries because she took the knowledge her professors were teaching and used it in real-world situations as a student as the CEO of the student-run ad agency Jacht Ad Lab and an intern at Lincoln Industries. Both of these experiences would not have been possible without the wisdom of her professors.

“The professors in the College of Business Administration have made an impact on me that definitely gave me a competitive edge in the job market,” she said. “Rob Simon, Steve Welton and Sam Nelson applied the course material to relevant trends in the business world and I know I will continue to use them as a resource as I enter the real world.”

Nikki Novak
Elmwood, Nebraska, native Nikki Novak earned an agribusiness degree with a marketing minor. She currently works at Sandhills Publishing as an account representative for Truck Paper, a career made possible through her involvement on campus. A four-year member of the UNL Equestrian Team, she parlayed her love of horses and knack for business to land a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the Kentucky Equine Management Internship program. While in Kentucky she learned about the big business that is the thoroughbred racehorse industry.

“Don’t hesitate to try new things. Getting involved in different organizations on campus benefits you in so many different ways,” she explained. “I feel as if the College of Business Administration has fully prepared me to enter the business world and be successful with the leadership, networking and management skills I obtained.”
