The Nebraska Council of Economic Education and Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity will host speaker Adam Carroll on Thursday, November 12 at 7 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public, and everyone, especially students interested in learning about managing their personal finances during and after college, is encouraged to attend.
 
Carroll has gained national acclaim as he travels the country speaking to students about how to better manage their finances. His book Winning the Money Game and corresponding curriculum are being used to teach financial literacy in high schools and colleges nationwide.
 
“Finance is one of those areas in life that invades all other facets of life,” said Jennifer Davidson, assistant professor of practice in economics and president of the Nebraska Council on Economic Education. “If your financial life is not in order you can’t focus on family, friends, school and more. We need to learn how to control our money and let it work with us instead of against us.”
 
Caroll will share his methods to pay off student debt, get paid to go to college and guarantee a comfortable retirement. His philosophy is to build a bigger life rather than a bigger lifestyle, and he encourages people to make the most of the money they earn. He encourages students to spend wisely as they enter their post-graduate careers, and Nicole Rein, president of Delta Sigma Pi, says the information is important for students to learn.
 
“I have found managing my money in order to pay for tuition, housing and other bills can be difficult. Adam Carroll will empower students by sharing valuable money management skills, and therefore allow us to focus on academics or finding a job after graduation,” said Rein, a senior accounting and marketing major from Bloomington, Minnesota.
