Next CARMA Webcasts Slated for February 24
The Consortium for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA) hosts its next round of webcasts on Friday, February 24, in CBA 24. The program kicks off at 11 a.m. with Dr. Nathan Podsakoff, associate professor in management in the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona, followed by Dr. Dan Newman, Charles L. Hulin Professorial Scholar of Psychology and Professor of Labor and Employment Relations at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, presenting at 12:15 p.m.

CARMA invites interested faculty and graduate students to attend the webcast in person. Attendees should arrive 15 minutes early so the webcast can start promptly at 11 a.m.

Podsakoff’s talk, “A Tutorial on the Causes, Consequences, and Remedies for Common Method Biases,” investigates method variances and the effects they can have on research. Two points Podsakoff examines are treating method biases as if they come from a single source, and the overreliance on post hoc statistical remedies, which have important limitations.

Newman presents, “Construct Mixology: Forming New Management Constructs by Combining Old Ones.” The presentation reviews the practice of building new psychological constructs by combining older constructs (a process referred to as construct mixology), with a focus on the impact, methodology and substantive knowledge implications of this practice.

CARMA is an interdisciplinary center housed at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration devoted to helping faculty, graduate students and professionals around the world keep up-to-date on developments in various areas of social science research methods and data analysis.

The next CARMA webcast is scheduled for April 7. Review the current CARMA webcast programs on the CARMA website
