Nebraska to Confer More Than 300 Business Degrees

Fall Commencement Ceremonies Commend Huskers on Achievements
Nebraska to Confer More Than 300 Business Degrees
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business is set to confer more than 300 degrees to students this weekend at commencement ceremonies held at Pinnacle Bank Arena, December 16-17. Delivering the undergraduate commencement addresses is U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer and for graduate commencement, Katrina Jagodinsky, Susan J. Rosowski Associate Professor of History at Nebraska.

New traditions begin while others continue, as more than 300 business students earn their diplomas this fall from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business at commencement exercises held December 16-17 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. For Kyle Hansen, who earns his J.D. and MBA, graduating from Nebraska means carrying on a family legacy.

“I will be the third generation in my family to graduate from Nebraska and the fourth member of my family, as my brother is graduating this year as well. I am happy to continue the family tradition and join the family of Husker alums,” said Hansen, a Scottsbluff, Nebraska, native.

Graduate and professional degree commencement takes place on Friday, December 16, at 3 p.m. with Katrina Jagodinsky, Susan J. Rosowski Associate Professor of history, delivering the commencement address. The undergraduate ceremony follows the next day at 9 a.m. with U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer addressing the students.

For management major Sara Segal of Omaha, Nebraska, graduating with her major and a human resources focus, being involved on campus helped her grow as a person and as a professional.

"Graduating from Nebraska means I’m closing a long chapter of my life with a great accomplishment. I have grown so much during my time at Nebraska and now I can finally celebrate that! I took a class with Kevin Wesley, associate professor of practice in management, and it was the hardest and best class ever. Because of the conversations we had about law, I am hoping to get my Master's in Legal Studies to help me in the field of human resources," she said.

After graduation, she will work remotely in human resources for UT Health East Texas. She will live in Lincoln.

Finance major Mya Bunker of Brandon, South Dakota, found that a single course taken in Hawks Hall made all the difference in feeling prepared for life after college.

“In my junior year, I took the Investors with Purpose course with Richard DeFusco. This class led me to an internship at the Nebraska Investment Council and have a fascination for investments. It also allowed me to explore possible financial careers and ultimately led me to a career in investments after college,” said Bunker.

Students benefit from a number of one-on-one support from peers and staff throughout their college experience. Ateev Bhandari, accounting and business administration major from Amritsar, India, shared that this spirit to collaborate and help others enabled him succeed. He looks forward to joining the ranks of nearly 40,000 business alumni and give back to the Nebraska Business community.

“The best thing about being a Husker is the way people celebrate their peers' accomplishments. Every time a Husker wins, Nebraska wins," Bhandari said. "Graduating from Nebraska means I'll forever be a part of this incredible community that takes the most genuine pride in calling themselves the Cornhuskers and will strive to uplift anyone who also shares this pride.”

Both ceremonies will be available to watch online at the commencement website: https://commencement.unl.edu.
