The Alpha Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi (DSP) at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln welcomed more than 300 students from Midwestern DSP chapters to downtown Lincoln for the annual Halsey Invitational Tournament, February 10-12. The inter-chapter event included many social activities hosted at Embassy Suites in downtown Lincoln and a basketball and volleyball tournament held at Nebraska’s City Campus Recreation Center.

A committee of eight Nebraska members planned the event, named after former DSP members Ken and Erin Halsey because of their long-time involvement in the fraternity. Friday night featured a “Flashback to the 90s” themed social, equipped with board games, karaoke and a photo booth. Students formed connections with members of other chapters during the social.

“It's very important to have events like the Halsey Invitational Tournament because it allows all of the Alpha Delta brothers to form relationships with other brothers around the country. The weekend involved networking with alumni and collegiate brothers, allowing for bonding and creating friendships,” said Molly King, a senior marketing major from Burlington, Illinois and president of the DSP chapter at Nebraska. “It was a great experience for students across the region to visit Lincoln and we gained exposure throughout the community by working with local businesses to coordinate details of the event.”

The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities received the volleyball tournament title, while Nebraska finished first place in basketball. After the competitions, students attended an awards banquet where Trevor Vander Kamp, a senior economics major at Nebraska, received the most valuable DeltaSig award for his service to the organization. Typically awarded to a member from the host chapter, students from any regional chapter are eligible to win the award. The night concluded with a dance assisted by the DJ Club at Nebraska.

The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities won the bid to host the tournament next year. As a co-ed, professional business fraternity, DSP develops principled business leaders for the future and emphasizes commitment to scholarship, service and professionalism. The Alpha Delta chapter at Nebraska was founded in 1924.
