Dean Requests Help From Nebraska Business Community to Welcome Students

Dean Requests Help From Nebraska Business Community to Welcome Students
Dr. John Kalu Osiri, director of the international business program, welcomes incoming students to the College of Business.

The College of Business community began welcoming new students to campus this week by providing uplifting messages through a new online application. Most high school seniors did not get a traditional graduation ceremony in the spring prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, so Dr. Kathy Farrell, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business, hopes to provide them with a warm virtual welcome showcasing the friendly spirit of Nebraskans.

“The submissions will be used to kick off the semester by welcoming and lifting each other up,” said Farrell. “These messages will be used in a variety of ways, depending on quantity and type of submissions. Students will likely see these on social media, virtual welcome events, digital signage and more.”

To make a submission, people are encouraged to fill out the form at https://business.unl.edu/share/. There are multiple ways to provide a message – either by answering written questions in an online form, attaching a photo or submitting a video, shot horizontally from a phone or other device. Suggested questions include favorite memories from the College of Business, advice to incoming freshmen and favorite spots to hang out in Howard L. Hawks Hall.

Farrell emphasized any College of Business faculty, staff, returning student, alumni or business partner should consider taking part. She hopes the effort generates the same type of enthusiasm from the Nebraska Business Community she sees at Husker sporting events.

The deadline to submit a welcome message is Tuesday, July 28 at 3 p.m. Those with questions can contact Laura Niles, external relations director for the college’s Communications, Marketing and External Relations.
