Business Week 2016 Brings Students Together to Learn and Have Fun

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration celebrates Business Week (B-Week) 2016 from September 19-22. The event represents a long tradition of galvanizing business students around various activities throughout the week to enhance their academic lives, future careers and social opportunities.

Alan Davis, a junior finance and agribusiness major from Elkhorn, Nebraska, is president of the CBA Student Advisory Board. He explained B-Week used to be a bigger focus in years past, and he would like to see it back at the forefront of important events taking place annually on the CBA calendar.

“We don’t get together as a college very often,” said Davis. “B-Week represents the study of business at CBA. It allows students to network with each other, with professors, and to enhance those skills. Everything is designed to help students enhance their professional potential. Our speaker presentation will teach students how to transition more effectively between their student and professional life. I believe this will be our biggest B-Week celebration in a very long time.”

Guest speaker David Sievers, makes his presentation, “Actively Managing Your Career,” on Tuesday, September 20 from 1-2 p.m. in the Gaughan Center Unity Room. Sievers is a successful two-time entrepreneur. Born and raised in Lincoln, he most recently helped build a company, Maker Studios in Los Angeles, that works with the biggest YouTubers in the world. There he developed and managed the primary revenue generating division for his company. After selling the company to The Walt Disney Company he recently relocated his wife and daughter back to Lincoln. The presentation also includes a limited number of B-Week t-shirts for students in attendance.

B-Week kicks off Monday, September 19, with a photo booth in CBA 109 that allows students to get a professional headshot taken for their LinkedIn profile. The Career Services at CBA office encourages all CBA students to create a LinkedIn profile in order to begin networking with like-minded professionals as soon as possible in their undergraduate degree programs. Students can also opt for a more light-hearted photo with the use of photo props full of school spirit.

Wednesday two important activities take place with the CBA Education Abroad Fair and Meet the Professors events. The Education Abroad Fair takes place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. throughout the first floor of CBA. It allows students to look more closely at the CBA-sponsored programs including trips to England, China, France, Japan, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Uganda and more. Meet the Professors runs from 4-7 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room. The majority of CBA faculty plan to attend, and the event offers the opportunity to get to know them better.

Finally, on Thursday, the CBA Student Advisory Board will host Snack Chat in the CBA Daily Drip atrium on the first floor between 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The casual activity allows students to socialize with their peers and enjoy snacks and drinks to close out the B-Week events.

Students are encouraged to share their B-Week experiences on social media and use the college’s hashtag #UNLCBA. For more information visit B-Week on the web at http://cba.unl.edu/bweek
