Research + Discovery
  • Dr. Amanda Gonzales, assistant professor of accountancy, received the honor of being named a Seacrest Teaching Fellow this fall at the College of Business. Through the Seacrest Teaching Fellowship, made possible through the support of Rhonda and the late James Seacrest, Gonzales plans to investigate how to improve dynamics of working in team settings. Her students will create, develop and utilize a team charter. The charter serves as a document team members use to specify objectives, roles, norms and processes. Learning + Transformation
  • Dr. Jennifer Ryan, chair of supply chain management and analytics, offered insight for an Omaha World Herald article on business analytics programs at Nebraska universities. “Faster computers, better software and other advances have elevated the importance of technology,” said Ryan. “All of these developments have allowed organizations to collect more data, better manage that data, and do more analysis with the data to create insights, improve decision-making and build value.” She noted that every student in the College of Business receives training in business analytics.   • Jen Mostek, interim director of Business Advising and Student Engagement, joins 29 other University of Nebraska–Lincoln staff members selected to the university’s Staff Leadership Academy. In its second year with a new sponsorship from the Chancellor’s Office, the academy covers topics including leading teams, communication, conflict resolution and creating inclusive workplaces.   • Kerri Hiatt, associate director of Business Graduate Programs and senior MBA advisor, became a member of the inaugural cohort of the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals (NAGAP) Leadership Academy this fall. This intensive leadership development experience offered to graduate enrollment professionals includes two in-person seminars accompanied by monthly webinars, leadership assessments and coaching. The six-month program culminates in a capstone project in which participants apply what they have learned to a challenge or opportunity on their campuses.
  • Taggart Bailey, senior finance major from Pierce, Nebraska, and John Ruhl, senior accounting major and finance minor from Lincoln, Nebraska, represented the College of Business in Northwestern Mutual Nebraska’s top four intern rankings. Based on their hard work, dedication and resilience in their internship, this recognition earns them a spot in the firm’s Summer Camp in Chicago, where the top college interns will meet for a special training.
  • Nicholas Wiebelhaus, sophomore marketing major from Bellevue, Nebraska, finished as a Top 10 First Time-Intern for Southwestern Advantage this summer. The Southwestern Advantage Summer Program provides its students with career training that others can only get in the real world. Out of a group of more than 1,000 first-time students, Wiebelhaus earned a gross summer profit of $18,048.
  • Dr. Tawnya Means, assistant dean and assistant professor of practice in management, was named one of seven members of the second cohort of Faculty Fellows for Student Success. Selected by the Executive Vice Chancellor’s Office, the fellows meet bimonthly with directors of academic support and engagement units to gain expertise on leading change at the university.

  • Twenty-two business faculty and staff received University of Nebraska–Lincoln Service Awards this fall. The university presents a service award to all regular employees who compete intervals of five calendar years of service. College of Business faculty and staff who received awards include:
5-years: Becky Barnard, coordinator for the Nebraska Council on Economic Education; Dr. Tammy E. Beck, associate dean of graduate programs and executive education; Heather Clemens, assistant director of Actuarial Science; Natasha Crawford J.D., academic advisor; Dr. Jimmy Downes, assistant professor of accountancy; Dr. Kyle Gibson, assistant director of the Center for Entrepreneurship; Katie Hauge, assistant director of the Business Career Center; Dr. Imran Khan, assistant professor of practice in management; Chad Mardesen, assistant professor of practice in marketing; Dr. Timothy Strother, assistant professor of practice in finance; Dr. Jing Wang, assistant professor of finance; Charles Waterson, assistant professor of practice in management
