Libby Schwemmer received the Student of the Year award from the Nebraska Business Student Advisory Board.

College of Business faculty, staff and students recognized for recent achievements include Dr. John Anderson, Dr. Jamie Hyodo, Dr. Ann Mari May, Dr. Mary McGarvey and Libby Schwemmer.

  • Dr. John Anderson, Baird Family Professor of Economics, taught an executive education course at the International Center for Land Policy Studies and Training in Taoyuan, Taiwan, May 14-18. The course on local public finance with an emphasis on property taxation was taught to nearly 30 professionals from around the world participating in a month-long program at ICLPST and celebrating the organization’s 50th anniversary. While in Taiwan, he was introduced to the country’s minister of finance, Sheu Yu-jer, and invited to give a lecture on tax policy to more than a 100 ministry personnel.

  • Dr. Ann Mari May, professor of economics, and Dr. Mary McGarvey, associate professor of economics, and their recent research on gender and European economic policy with Dr. David Kucera of the International Labour Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, was featured in the June issue of the International Monetary Fund magazine Finance & Development. Their research provides the first systematic analysis of differences in views of male and female economists in Europe on a broad range of topics including core precepts, government intervention, taxes, environmental protection and equal opportunity.   • Libby Schwemmer, a senior actuarial science and finance major from New Berlin, Wisconsin, received the Student of the Year award from the Nebraska Business Student Advisory Board. She was considered for the honor after being named the March College of Business Student of the Month for her involvement in the Undergraduate Women in Business student organization and Actuarial Science Club.
