    The latest cohort of Allan Noddle International Business Distinguished Scholars participated in an induction ceremony March 6.
    Ten international business majors were inducted into the second cohort of Allan Noddle International Business Distinguished Scholars. The cohort-based program allows high-achieving, global-minded students to take part in research opportunities and an additional study abroad experience. These students include: Callie Bopes, a freshman international business major from Omaha, Nebraska; Carlyn Bretey, a freshman international business major from Le Mars, Iowa; Abigail Burg, a freshman international business major from Pewaukee, Wisconsin; Nicholas Earickson, a freshman international business major from Saint Louis; Naomi Fiala, a freshman international business major from Bellevue, Nebraska; Arihant Mittal, a freshman international business major from Jaipur, India; Min An Ong, a sophomore international business major from Johor Bahru, Malaysia; John Pham, a senior international business major from Lincoln, Nebraska; Grayson Wegener, a freshman international business major from Denton, Nebraska; and Thomas Wolfe, a sophomore international business major from Leawood, Kansas.    
  • Nebraska Business Honors Academy students swept top awards at the annual Leadership Challenge Event at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Students who won first place included: Ethan Carlson, a freshman business administration major from Norfolk, Nebraska; Maya Mercer, a junior marketing major from Nebraska City, Nebraska; Molly Olander, a freshman actuarial science major from Burnsville, Minnesota; Reagan Scott, a junior management major from Lincoln; and Peyton Walker, a sophomore supply chain management major from Fort Collins, Colorado. The team who took second place and won the Communication award included: Olivia Coffey, a sophomore international business major from Lincoln; Mary Morton, a sophomore management major from Lincoln; Abby Nelson, a freshman management and marketing major from Lincoln; Luke Schnacker, a senior finance and economics major from Topeka, Kansas; and Alex Von Seggern, a freshman supply chain management major from Scriber, Nebraska.
  • Three business students served as panelists at the UNL Academic Advising Association Conference, where they shared their experiences with the Clifton Strengths Institute and how learning about their CliftonStrengths® enhanced their college experience. Panelists included: Connor Castleman, a sophomore management major from Valley, Nebraska; Adrianna Mcking, a freshman marketing major from Bellevue, Nebraska; and Liz Uebele, a senior management major from Lincoln.
  • Dr. John E. Anderson, Baird Family Professor of Economics, was quoted in a Bloomberg Tax article on an advisory panel working on recommendations to overhaul the New York City property tax system.
  • Dr. Les Carlson, Nathan J. Gold Distinguished Professor of Marketing, shared insight on if a product to make cows happier could make for happier consumers in an April 3 Forbes article. The article explored market trends and how consumers could respond to the use of cow brushes, which help dairy cows reduce stress, enjoy themselves and stay clean. Carlson said he’s not convinced the appeal of the brushes cuts across all consumers of any age group and cautions against any strategy that leads to increased milk prices. Still, he acknowledged there is a segment who will find it appealing.
  • Candice Dominguez, a graduate student with the MAIAA program, was one of 16 in the nation selected for the Winning Edge Leadership Academy in Atlanta. This four-day professional development experience helps current and former student-athletes position themselves for success in sports business careers.
  • Dr. Kathy Farrell, James Jr. and Susan Stuart Endowed Dean of the College of Business, will co-chair the steering committee for a new budget model for the university.
  • Dr. Tammie Fischer, director of Center of Economics Education and assistant professor of practice in economics, was elected second vice president of the Midwest Economics Association for 2019-20. The association advances economic knowledge and the economics profession.
  • Sheri Irwin-Gish, executive director of Communications, Marketing, and External Relations, presented “The Keys to Powerful Communication” at AACSB School Communications and Development Symposium in Tampa. The presentation discussed how business schools can achieve effective communications and utilized examples of print, video, social media, emails and more.
  • Dr. Sunil Singh, assistant professor of marketing, received a $10,000 research grant from Layman Seed and New Directions Competition to assist with research on his proposal titled “Review Persuasiveness: Underlying Dynamics of Review Text Dimensions.”
  • Dr. Eric Thompson, Karl H. Nelson Professor of Economics and director of the Bureau of Business Research, interviewed with the Omaha World-Herald for an article on Omaha’s cost of living increasing in recent years.
