More Than 200 Board Members Convene for CBA Partnership Summit

The largest-ever College of Business Administration Partnership Summit at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln saw more than 200 members from 14 of the 15 advisory boards gather for meetings throughout campus, a luncheon at the Nebraska Champions Club and tours of the new CBA building. The luncheon featured Dean Donde Plowman’s State of the College Address, as well a keynote address from UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green.

After meeting with her advisory board in the morning Plowman updated advisory board members on a variety of topics in her address, including the continued growth of CBA and its programs. The college added 23 new faculty for the 2016-17 academic year and launched the new Department of Supply Chain Management and Analytics as well as other additions. She described the progress of the college’s distinctive programs and shared the new CBA building will be ready for the 2017-18 academic year.

“When I think about the building, to me, what it does is reflect so many important things,” Plowman said. “It reflects our aspirations. It captivates. It looks like what we’re trying to become. We’re trying to be a place where this world-class design is home to a world-class business college.”

Green touched on many of the same topics in his keynote, citing CBA as a leader as UNL moves forward with its goals for growth. He also pointed to CBA as being on the cutting edge when it comes to making UNL a distinctive university within the Big Ten Conference.

“To be distinctive in the Big Ten, we have to do some things at a higher level than in the past,” Green said. “And we are doing that in this college. When you look at things like the ranking improvement, that’s becoming a distinctive Big Ten university. To be a distinctive Big Ten university we have to have a distinctive business college, and we’re doing that here.”

The dean’s advisory board and junior school of accountancy board also met in the morning, with the remaining 12 boards meeting after the luncheon. Those boards were the school of accountancy, actuarial science, bureau of business research, center for entrepreneurship, finance, management, marketing, MBA and supply chain management and analytics. The two newest advisory boards for international business and the master of arts in business with a specialization in intercollegiate athletic administration (MAIAA) held their inaugural meetings.

The day also gave board members the opportunity to celebrate the newest U.S. News & World Report undergraduate business school rankings. The rankings, released earlier in the week, saw CBA jump 13 places to No. 48 in the publication’s annual ranking of business programs. Among public business colleges, UNL was No. 30.

“I’ve watched this rock star for the last six years,” Green said of Plowman. “Donde came in as the dean of the college within a few weeks of when I started. Her impact has been transformational. She’s brought an enormous level of leadership to CBA.”

On Saturday, advisory board members, supporters, CBA faculty and guests attended a tailgate at Meier Commons between the new CBA building and the Nebraska Union prior to the Nebraska vs. Oregon football game.
