We are pleased to invite academics, practitioners and students working in actuarial science and related areas to submit abstracts to ARC 2020 taking place from August 9 to 12, 2020, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Presentations and posters on all areas of actuarial research are welcome.

Submission Deadline: May 31, 2020, 11:59 p.m.

Submission Process: We accept abstracts of papers or poster presentations. Abstracts must be within 200 words. To make a submission to the 55th Actuarial Research Conference, please follow the instructions on the next page. Conference registration is required for all presenting authors upon acceptance of the submission.

Student Presenters: If the presenter is a student, a brief email of support must be sent from a faculty member at the same university to ARCNebraska@unl.edu.

Guidelines for Posters

  • The Poster Presentation Session will showcase diverse research results in actuarial science and other related fields. It is an ideal venue for researchers/students to present and discuss their research with conference attendees.
  • Posters will be on display Tuesday, August 11, 2020, 5-6:30 p.m.
  • Poster presenters are asked to be present at their poster during the Poster Session.
  • Prizes will be awarded for the best three poster presentations: $250 (1st prize), $150 (2nd prize), and $100 (3rd prize).
  • There will be a limit of 20 spaces for Poster Presentations. The deadline for submitting an abstract for your poster presentation is May 31st. However, we encourage you to submit your abstract as early as possible because once the space limit is reached, we can no longer accept submissions.
  • After you have successfully submitted your poster abstract, you will receive an acceptance email.
  • Mounting material to hang your poster will be provided.

Tips for an effective poster

  • Place a heading that runs the full width of the poster at the top in a large-sized type.
  • The poster should be readable from a distance of 1.5 - 2 meters (4 - 6 feet).
  • The text should be no less than 8 mm (22 point font) and preferably larger.
  • Use a constant font throughout the poster.
  • Show the preferred sequence in which your poster should be reviewed; this can be done by using 3 - 5 columns so the eye movement is down the columns.
  • Highlight your main findings. Don't hide your conclusions, consider putting them at eye level, at the top of the right column or alternatively start with the Conclusions. Otherwise, we suggest that you structure your poster by Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. State your aims in the end of the introduction.
  • The figures and tables should cover approximately 50% of the poster area.
  • If possible, avoid abbreviations and acronyms, especially in the Conclusion section.
  • Seek simplicity, keep text to a minimum and avoid redundancies.
  • Feel free to provide one or more key references.
  • Prepare a short ( < 60 seconds) oral guide through your poster to be offered to those that prefer your words before reading for themselves.
  • Handouts of your abstract/poster are allowable. We encourage you to include your email address on your poster or handout, so anyone interested may contact the author about questions, comments, or future research inquiries.

Please enter your email address along with your first and last name to begin the submission process on the next page.
