Larry Williams

Dr. Larry Williams is the director of the Survey Research and Methodology (SRAM) program, Donald and Shirley Clifton chair of survey science and professor of management. He joins the College of Business from the University of North Dakota, where he was a professor of psychology and director of the Consortium for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA). Previously, he has been on the faculty at the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University and the College of Business at the University of Tennessee. He received his Ph.D. in organizational behavior from Indiana University and master’s degree in industrial/organizational psychology from Purdue University. His research interests include the application of structural equation methods to various substantive and methodological concerns.

Williams established CARMA, an interdisciplinary center devoted to advancing faculty and students’ knowledge of organizational and social science research methods and data analysis techniques, in 1997. More than 10,000 faculty and students from 57 countries used the CARMA website in 2014-15, and 169 universities participated in CARMA member programs in the same time period.

The Southern Management Association recognized him as the author of the third-most highly-cited article in the 40-year history of the Journal of Management in 2016. His research has been published in the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Organizational Research Methods and Academy of Management Annals.

A founding editor of Organizational Research Methods, a journal sponsored by the research methods division of the Academy of Management, Williams also served as a chairperson of the academy’s research methods division. He previously served as consulting editor for the Research Methods and Analysis section of the Journal of Management. He has been a member of the editorial board of Structural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal.

The Academy of Management awarded Williams its Distinguished Educator Award in 2015. He was elected a fellow of the Society for Industrial Organizational Psychology in 2010. In 2008, he was recognized as one of the 150 most-cited authors in the field of management from 1981-2004 in an article published in the Journal of Management. Williams received the Distinguished Career Contributions Award from the Academy of Management’s Research Methods Division in 2005.
