Stewardship Luncheon and Dinner

Dean Donde Plowman and the University of Nebraska Foundation hosted two stewardship events on September 6. A luncheon was held for those who provide endowed scholarships to the College of Business Administration and a dinner was held for those who gave the funds for endowed professorships and chairs.

“We wanted to honor our alumni and friends who provide generous gifts to the UNL College of Business. These gifts allow us to recruit the top students and faculty, and be competitive in both areas with other Big Ten Business schools,” Plowman said.

More than 60 people attended the luncheon, including 32 of the CBA scholarship recipients.

Seniors Margo Berends, an economics and political science double major of Aurora, Colo., and Chris Spanel, a finance major and English minor of Lincoln, Neb., spoke at the luncheon about how their scholarships benefited their college careers.

“My scholarship allowed me to study abroad in the Nebraska at Oxford program through CBA. That experience helped me choose my career path, and I am now planning to teach in France after graduation,“ Berends said.

Later that day 60 CBA supporters joined Plowman at the Country Club of Lincoln for dinner. John Anderson, Baird Family Professor of Economics, and Sue Vagts, interim director of actuarial science and Ameritas Faculty Fellow spoke at the dinner.

Plowman said, “The events provided the opportunity for CBA professors and students to thank the people who give to the College of Business. We wouldn’t be able to do all that we do without the support of generous alumni and friends of CBA.”
