School of Accountancy Recognizes Graduates at Celebration
James Anderson lauds graduating class at School of Accountancy Graduation Celebration
More than 125 graduates from the School of Accountancy at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business received recognition at the spring 2017 Graduation Celebration on Friday, May 5. The event, held in the Memorial Stadium Club Suites, gave friends and family members a chance to congratulate graduates and meet faculty and staff from the school.

James Anderson, partner at BKD, LLP Nebraska practice and member of the School of Accountancy Advisory Board, delivered the keynote speech to the graduating class. He singled out the graduates for their high character and discipline in receiving their degrees.

“You have chosen an area of study that says a lot about you as a person,” said Anderson. “Your accounting degree, and for most of you, the CPA designation you hope to obtain, indicates to the world you are many things – trustworthy, dependable, intelligent and hard working.  My experience over 20 years suggests regardless of your immediate post-graduation plans, the combination of your degree, the CPA designation and some experience, is very powerful. There is currently, and will continue to be, a market for your skills, whether it be in public or private business, education or elsewhere.”

Anderson explained to students that success is much more than a high-paying job. He emphasized participation with business partners, the community and working with young people can all be extremely rewarding.

“I could not be more enthusiastic about the impact that today’s graduates of the School of Accountancy will have on their families, businesses and communities. Learn something new every day, sprinkle in some grit and have fun too,” he told the graduates.
