Lin Serves on Editorial Boards of Top Insurance and Actuarial Journals

Dr. Yijia Lin, associate professor in finance at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business Administration, currently serves as associate editor for two prestigious finance journals – the North American Actuarial Journal (NAAJ) and the Journal of Risk and Insurance (JRI). The editorial boards give Lin the opportunity to work with some of the most respected and recognized scholars from across the U.S. and the world.

“The role of the editorial board is to review submissions and decide whether they are in the scope of the journal and meet the journal’s quality standards,” she said. “We also help select referees to review submitted manuscripts.”

As leading publications within the risk management, insurance and actuarial science field, the editorial boards maintain focus on continually providing the highest caliber material. The impact includes other disciplines that incorporate the concepts of risk in their operations.

“As part of the editorial board, we discuss our scope and its relation to other disciplines,” said Lin. “We consider how to increase the influence of the publication to attract the highest quality articles and authors.”

She also contributes to the review process through her expertise in the areas of risk management, insurance and actuarial science. The impact of Lin’s work and recognition for CBA is a valuable by-product.

“I am glad to take this responsibility because it helps increase the visibility of our department and college,” Lin said. “It illustrates we are able to deliver good researchers.”

Participation also offers additional assets and increases research connections.

“It’s great to work with these outstanding researchers in the editorial board,” she said. “It expands our research networks.”

Lin, who joined the CBA Department of Finance in 2007, has published many papers in top tier journals herself, and teaches classes at CBA in corporate risk management, enterprise risk management and advanced finance.
