Nebraska Business alumni from across the country flocked to Howard L. Hawks Hall on Saturday, September 23 for the first alumni tailgate in the new University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Business building preceding the Nebraska vs. Rutgers football game. Many of the more than 200 in attendance entered the new facility for the first time. In addition to tailgate attendees, more than 60 additional guests showed up for an actuarial science alumni reunion held simultaneously with the tailgate.

Tailgate attendees socialized in the 4,262-square-foot second floor atrium and took guided tours from Nebraska Business staff. They explored state-of-the-art auditorium spaces on the lower level of the college, in addition to sampling high-tech cluster classroom spaces designed to better facilitate student group projects and learning activities. Many guests also visited the new Huskers Shop located near the west entrance of the building.

In addition to tailgate food and drinks, a highlight of the festivities occurred as Interim Dean Kathy Farrell welcomed guests and announced the recent climb in U.S. News & World Report rankings. Alumni cheered at the news of the college moving up to No. 45 in the list of undergraduate business programs.

“We could never be where we are without our fabulous alumni and the work they do on behalf of the college,” said Farrell. “We recognize their support through events like the tailgate because their efforts create a momentum you can feel throughout the building. Our alumni possess the Start Something attitude we adopted at our college, and they model it for current business students.”

The actuarial science alumni event celebrated the program’s 60th anniversary and also provided tours for attendees. Additionally, a special lunch program highlighted by a game of interactive trivia allowed attendees to learn historical facts about the actuarial science program. Later guests moved to the Dean’s Terrace for a dessert bar, and the opportunity to take in the gameday sights and sounds of Memorial Mall, which connects Memorial Stadium to the College of Business.

Other activities at the tailgate included a swag table, photo opportunities and a chance to meet new and former faculty in attendance. Following the tailgate, attendees made their way to the Nebraska football game where the Huskers came through unscathed 27-17.
