Dr. Scott Fuess Discusses Significance of UNL's Move to Big Ten on KOLN-TV

UNL Chair of Economics, Dr. Scott Fuess, sat down with KOLN-TV in Lincoln to explain the significance of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's move to the Big Ten.

Fuess explained that beyond athletics there is an academic excellence behind the move that is an even bigger story.

"It's a huge deal," said Fuess. "The Big Ten includes the best public universities in the country. The opportunity to be invited to join that group -- to put it simply -- we've been asked to move into a very desirable neighborhood.

"The Big Ten is like a brand and the Big Ten is short hand for very high quality research and very high quality universities that make an impact. For UNL to be part of that brand means our university is included with some very select company."

Fuess also explained how students will benefit from joining forces with the other Big Ten institutions.

"The value of a UNL diploma is going to go up. If you think about a college degree as an asset the value of that degree is likely to rise."
