Donde's Point: August 2012

There are so many great things happening at Nebraska in the College of Business that it is hard to know where to start.

I just returned from our Nebraska at Oxford program where we have 71 students participating in the four-week program. I attended three classes while there, watched our students interact with the Oxford faculty and could not have been more proud. Our students are EXCELLENT. Next year is the 25-year anniversary of this remarkable program. Stay tuned for details on how we will celebrate.

The ranking of our MBA program jumped 22 spots in the latest U.S. News & World Report ranking – from #50 to #28. This is terrific news and just the beginning of our move to greater visibility and recognition.

We are excited to welcome 11 new faculty to CBA, the result of our excellent recruitment over the past year, which was enabled by differential tuition revenues. We are hiring again this year for another 6-7 faculty members. The following outstanding faculty will be joining us in August:
  • Jenna Pieper, Assistant Professor of Management (Human Resources) – Ph.D., U of Wisconsin, Madison
  • Varkey Titus, Assistant Professor of Management (Entrepreneurship/Strategy) – Ph.D., Indiana University
  • Christopher Tuggle, Assistant Professor of Management (Strategy) – Ph.D., Texas A & M University
  • Jifeng Yu, Assistant Professor of Management (Strategy) – Ph.D., Georgia State University
  • Scott Murray, Assist Professor of Finance – Ph.D., Baruch College
  • Xin Zhao, Assistant Professor of Marketing – Ph.D., University of Utah
  • Glenn Williams, Assistant Professor of Practice in Finance – Ph.D., University of Florida
  • Steve Welton, Assistant Professor of Practice in Marketing – MBA, Rockhurst University
  • Laurie Miller, Assistant Professor of Practice in Economics – Ph.D., University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee
  • Elina Ibrayeva, Assistant Professor of Practice in Management – Ph.D., University of Nebraska – Lincoln
  • Jean Riley-Schultz, Assistant Professor of Practice in Accounting – MPA, University of Nebraska – Lincoln

Perhaps most exciting is our plan for a new CBA building. The architects have completed the concept design phase. We have renderings and cost figures. The project is scheduled to go before the Board of Regents in early fall, and then we will be off and running. The site for the building could not be better – in the heart of the campus. You will be hearing much more about this project.

There has never been a more exciting time for the College of Business Administration at UNL. We thank each of you for your support and interest in the college.
