Recently, Brandon Urry, assistant director for specialist programs, welcomed Bo Hanson to speak in his Managerial Skills Seminar class. Hanson, located in Australia, works in athletic assessment, and visited with students in the masters of arts in business with a specialization in intercollegiate athletic administration program via two-way videoconference technology.

Of all the challenges facing the opening of the new Howard L. Hawks Hall at the start of the fall 2017 semester, one of the biggest involved equipping the facility with innovative new technology to help improve the educational experience for students, faculty, staff and alumni. David Hartline, director of information technology and facilities operation, proclaimed it to be one of the biggest IT projects in the history of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Demands included installing a new computer for almost every employee, delivering new dual monitor systems, upgrading phone technologies, activating ports and creating digital sign displays throughout the building.

Emily Bergen Heads the New Welcome Center

One of the most prominent features of the new Howard L. Hawks building includes the Welcome Center, provided by Pinnacle Bank. Located on the first level, near the northwest entrance, the large circular desk is the first thing you see as you enter the building as well as the person smiling behind it. Emily Bergen, a graduate of the Nebraska hospitality, restaurant and tourism program started as the welcome center receptionist when the building opened in August.
