Through an ongoing partnership with the Clifton Foundation and Gallup, Dean Donde Plowman appointed Dr. Larry J. Williams as director of the Survey Research and Methodology (SRAM) program, Donald and Shirley Clifton Chair of Survey Science and professor of management in spring 2016. Williams began his duties at UNL June 1.
“I’ve known of Larry my whole career, as he is an international rock star in management,” said Plowman. “Every university we want to be like is a member of the Consortium for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (CARMA) and now we have the founder of it here.”
Founded by Williams in 1997, CARMA is an interdisciplinary center devoted to advancing faculty and students’ knowledge of organizational and social science research methods and data analysis. More than 10,000 faculty and students from 57 countries used the CARMA website in 2014-15, and 169 universities participated in CARMA member programs in the same period.

Williams previously worked at the University of North Dakota as a professor of psychology and director of CARMA. Prior to that, he was on the faculty at the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University and the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee.
The SRAM program trains students on the best innovative practices in the collection of regional, national and international survey data. The program offers master’s and Ph.D. degrees and a certificate program, as well as master’s and Ph.D. minors for students enrolled in other UNL graduate programs.
