The 240,000-square-foot Howard L. Hawks Hall, named in honor of the Omaha businessman, class of 1957 alum, philanthropist and University of Nebraska regent, serves as space to inspire and enable you to collaborate, innovate and congregate. The $84 million, privately-funded building fosters interactions among students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors that impact the future of business.

State of the Art Facility for Business Students

Hawks Hall features high-tech classrooms designed for collaboration and hands-on learning. Beyond classrooms, the building offers students space to study, visit with faculty and friends, get something to eat and hang out.

Building Access

Your NCard gives you extended access to Hawks Hall. With spaces to study and meet, the building serves as your academic hub. CoB recognized student organization (RSO) leaders should contact Rachel Wesley or their faculty advisor to make a classroom reservation.

Breakout Rooms

Located in the Lower Level and Second Floor, the breakout rooms are perfect for small group collaboration and studying. Up to two weeks ahead of time, you can reserve a breakout room for two hours or simply walk up and reserve one on the spot.

WiFi and Printers

In the indoor and outdoor spaces around Hawks Hall, you can use the university’s eduroam WiFi network. Two printer stations are located on the Lower Level. Use a flash drive or upload to the web to print. Copies start at 9 cents and you can pay with a credit card through the Wepa web portal.

Gender-Inclusive Restrooms

Gender-inclusive/all-gender restrooms are one-room or one-stall facilities with locks that can be used as changing facilities. Gender-inclusive restrooms are available on the lower level, first floor, second floor, third floor and fifth floor of Hawks Hall (005B, 029, 108C, 206B, 337A, 337B and 507D).

Lactation Rooms

The university recognizes the importance of supporting mothers who breastfeed or express milk while they are on campus and is committed to providing private, accessible and comfortable lactation rooms available to its employees, students and visitors. These private, dedicated spaces are free from intrusion and accessible for use during regular building hours on the lower level and fourth floor of Hawks Hall (004B and 407D).

Taking a Moment for You in the Cafe

Visitors and the campus community enjoy stopping by the café for breakfast, lunch and coffee. The café is a result of private-public partnership.

Yes Chef Café

From coffee to paninis, the Yes Chef Café provides delicious options for breakfast and lunch. The cafe is located on the first floor inside the southeast entrance of Hawks Hall.

Yes Chef Café is cashless.

Hours are Mondays-Thursdays: 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m and Fridays: 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.


Brandon Akert, ’12, developed the first version of Yes Chef from a three-minute business pitch for a Center for Entrepreneurship competition when earning his hospitality degree.

Visiting Hawks Hall

Visitors to campus can use the NU-Guest WiFi network.

Getting Here

Located in the heart of the university’s campus, Hawks Hall is located at 14th and Vine Streets and serves as the bookend on Memorial Mall opposite to Memorial Stadium.

To get here by car, please use our street address of 730 N. 14th Street. The nearest parking garage is the Avery Parking Garage located at 111 N. 14th Street. Hourly parking rates are $1.25 per hour.

Bus routes connect all UNL campuses, Monday through Friday, when classes are in session. StarTran Bus #24 stops at Hawks Hall. To ride, be ready to show your NCard and your bus pass. Cash fare is $1.75.

An interactive map can be viewed online from your mobile device or desktop to easily view real-time GPS location of buses. You may also use this map to look up bicycle parking, accessible parking, all visitor parking and building locations.

Reserving Space in Hawks Hall

Any College of Business department, unit or registered business student organization can reserve space for meetings and events at no charge. For university affiliated and non-university groups, hosting your event in Hawks Hall includes a room charge and event equipment made available by the college.

CoB Reservations

CoB faculty and staff can make room reservations for events through the Event Management System. Students can also utilize this system to reserve breakout rooms. CoB recognized student organization leaders should contact Rachel Wesley or their faculty advisor to make a classroom reservation.

Anyone utilizing the space inside or around Hawks Hall should reference the college’s Building Policies. The policies and procedures streamline the event planning process, create consistent event experiences, create efficiencies to help maximize space usage and maintain the integrity of the policies.

The building and event reservation services are available based on college resources, and policies may be notified or amended at any time.
